Recent hurricanes have served as a reminder that ATMs are a critical means of accessing cash for cardholders in the aftermath of a disaster.
Read Drew Foley's Opinion Piece describing options credit unions have in planning for ATM continuity today. Foley discusses action taken by FivePoint Credit Union of Texas, which sustained a direct hit in hurricane Rita, and by TruWest Credit Union, where the goal is to have 30 ATMs back online in the same 24 hour time period as branches. And, as a new option in disaster planning, NIHFCU has started a business continuity CUSO to improve response time for areas like ATM recovery.
